10/11/2016 [NTRC & Housing] Shocking rates of Aboriginal homelessness & overcrowding must be examined by Royal Commission
Thursday 10 November 2016
On 10 November, APO NT and the Human Rights Law Centre (HRLC) issued a joint media release based on a joint submission to the Royal Commission with Danila Dilba Aboriginal Health Service.
This Submission highlighted that the Northern Territory has the highest rates of homelessness and overcrowding in the country, and Aboriginal families and children make up 98% of those living in severely overcrowded houses in the Northern Territory. This directly impacts on child health, development and wellbeing.
This submission was also endorsed by NT Shelter and the Children in Care and Youth Detention Advice Service (CICAYDAS).
The Media Release is available here.
