Donna Stephens grew up as a part of a large local family and now has her own wonderful blended family of six children, ranging from 15 to 23 years. A proud Murran/Iwaidja woman from the Coburg Peninsula in northwest Arnhem land, she often returns to the country with her mob.

Over the last few decades, Donna has worked across both education and research roles.  In 2018 she moved to Menzies School of Health Research as the Program and Research Manager with the alcohol, other drug and gambling team,  focused on Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) research and evaluations. Among the range projects, Donna recently co-led the delivery and evaluation of a Certificate II – Community Health Research for staff in the AOD sector.

Donna’s role at AMSANT as the SEWB Workforce Development Coordinator will provide an opportunity to work with SEWB/AOD organisations and staff across the NT.  The central purpose of this role is to develop and support the capacity and responsiveness of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander SEWB/AOD workforce, inclusive of front-line staff, supervisors and managers, by coordinating initiatives and activities aimed at addressing the support, training and professional development needs of this workforce.  The role will work in keeping with AMSANT’s understanding of the best practice of SEWB and service provision for our communities.
