AMSANT message

AMSANT Board, members and staff wish to extend their deepest sympathy and condolences to Gail, Darren, Jonathon and Ngaree on the recent passing of JAK.  He was a friend, advocate and supporter of our Aboriginal community controlled health sector.  He knew many of our Board Directors, staff in our health services and the Aboriginal community and always provided encouragement, support with his big smile and laughter.

JAK was a true blue gentleman and great Territorian.

He will be sadly missed.

Ah Kit Family Statement

It is with great sadness we announce the death of John Ah Kit—better known to many as Jack Ah Kit.

He passed away this evening at Royal Darwin Hospital—and we would like to thank the staff at RDH for their help and support over this difficult time.

He was a brother, cousin, husband, father, uncle and grandfather to us, of course, but was also had those connections for many other people and friends around the Territory and the Australian nation as a leader and advocate for Aboriginal people, their countries, and their rights.

His achievements were many, and we will hear stories of these in the coming days and weeks. But what we should remember, above all, his great sense of humour, his love of country and his love of friends and family.

As his family members we are, of course, in mourning.

But we are also aware that this is a life that should be the focus of celebration and commemoration.

We will let people know what plans we have to celebrate his life as arrangements are made.
