Cultural Responsive Trauma -informed Practice

Trauma-informed practice is now widely recognized as integral to reducing risk, supporting safety and improving overall wellbeing in all contexts of service provision.

AMSANT’s social and emotional wellbeing (SEWB) team have developed a trauma-informed practice training program that is guided by evidence and grounded in local cultural knowledge, and where pathways to healing are translated from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander wisdom. Our program is continually evolving through our philosophy of cycling through the growth of knowing, being and doing; and through the guidance of the many Aboriginal communities, groups and individuals who have advised us in our progress.

Our training takes a systems-level approach, meaning we work at a personal, professional and Organisational level in order to develop a culture and environment that is safe and supportive for clients and staff, who carry the load of trauma from past and current events.

Organisational change takes time and effort.  To support an organisation to become trauma-informed or integrated, The program has developed a CRTIP systems assessment tool (SAT) that provides measurements that assess organised systems and produces positive practice outcomes. The SAT complements a systemic reflective process to review all areas of an organisation’s operation, and the team works in partnership with member services who wish to embed CRTICP within their organisation.

The Infinity Loop
Our program model puts heart, land and connectedness at the centre, understanding that each person and place bring their own history, experiences and values to the process of becoming trauma-informed. Our philosophy focuses on three domains as the basis for all learnings: knowing, being and doing.
