Hearing Awareness Training for physical education (PE) teachers and classroom teachers who teach PE

The Department of Education are offering a free, online Hearing Awareness Training session for PE teachers and classroom teachers who teach PE and support stuff.

The aim of this training is to enable students with a hearing loss (including temporary hearing loss caused by middle ear infections) to participate fully in their classes. This session will include appropriate communication strategies that will benefit all students. The session will be recorded.

Deafness Council: “You can ask that” Webinar

Deafness Council is hosting a unique event where parents, families, and people from all walks of life talk about their challenges with hearing loss, middle ear issues, devices and more.

We will hear the stories of a range of people including parents, we have Belinda, who is a mum of two children who have suffered from constant middle ear infections, and Bob, an older gentleman whose hearing loss was diagnosed later in life.  Hear their stories and listen to their advice about the need to get help early.

AMSANT Webinar Series: Sound Scouts

AMSANT will be hosting a monthly ear health webinar series and this month Carolyn Mee, CEO, has been invited to talk about the Sound Scouts resource with time allocated for Q&A. For those interested but unable to attend, the webinar will be recorded.

Sounds Scouts is a free hearing app designed to check children’s hearing. It is suitable for adults and children aged 4 & over. The Sound Scouts ‘hearing check’ app is evidence-based, easy and fun to use. The resource: includes 3 game-based activities which can be completed in 8 minutes; provides an indication of a child’s hearing health & listening abilities, both in quiet and noise generates an automated report with clear next steps if a problem is identified.

Sound Scouts can be used as a tool in multiple primary health care settings to screen children and triage audiology waiting lists. Clinicians also have the option to register for a free clinical portal which gives them the opportunity to review the detailed interactions.
